Oklahoma rocks BBQ! Oh, I know, you may think Kansas City, Missouri or Dallas, Texas or maybe Memphis, Tennessee would be considered BBQ meccas of the US, and they are. But the competitive nature for BBQ champion is alive and kicking in Oklahoma. How might I know that, because my husband loves ribs and brisket and has become quite the aficionado. So that means, we eat our fair share of BBQ. Including sampling the fare at those top 5 BBQ restaurants in Kansas City. But, believe me when I say, Oklahoma is right along side the Big Guys!
There are going to be several on my list as we travel through our fair state, and at some point I might even make a top ten list, but let’s start here! A wonderful family run BBQ restaurant that we enjoy food, service and atmosphere is Dan’s BBQ Pit in Davenport, OK. Travel on Historic Route 66 about 7 miles east out of Chandler, OK and you are there. Buffet style or order from the menu. Tender pork ribs, chopped brisket, fresh cut fries, homemade apple pie and friendly service. You will enjoy and get full!
A great story of BBQ excellence in Oklahoma and also located along Historic Route 66 is the BBQ Butcher Stand in Wellston, Oklahoma. They opened up a small stand with outdoor picnic tables to share their award winning BBQ with the public and it took off like wildfire! The dining area is now enclosed and provides a comfortable atmosphere to enjoy the wonderful food! But get ready because they are only open on Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 11am until 3pm, and they get busy! It is that good!
Look at their credentials: 85+ Grand & Reserve Grand Champions; 400+ 1st places; 2012 World Food Champion; BBQ Pitmaster TV Show Finalist; BBQ Pitmaster TV Show “All Star”; Jack Daniel’s World Champion; Kansas City Royal Reserve Grand Champion; Grand Champions in 10 States; Jack Daniel’s World Invitational Sauce Winner; Jack Daniel’s World Invitational Pork Winner! It is worth your time!
