The Oklahoma Clothesline

On our recent trip to Natural Falls State Park in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, there was a “must stop” in Chouteau, Oklahoma! Just a few minutes after you take the Chouteau exit off Hwy 412, keep your eyes peeled for the Amish Cheese House. What a nice place. I love Amish Stores. There is a good one in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and love the one in Branson, MO, but this is one of my favorites!

Not only is it cute from the outside, but inside you will find a cafe with oh so fresh food, a wonderful bakery, a deli with such a variety of tasty cheeses, and, of course, their wide selection of home-canned vegetables, fruits, spices, etc. I made fried pies with their home-canned blackberry pie filling and they were delicious! Also, the bakery was putting out fresh warm bread as we were standing there, so I took warm wheat bread on our picnic at Natural Falls! Yummy!

And don’t miss shopping for the ‘best ever’ Amish woven dish rags. They are a must at my kitchen sink. Not only do they wash up very nice, using bleach, but they also wring out well and make cleaning up a little more pleasant.

Now after or before you visit the Amish Cheese House, right down the road, be sure and check out Cherry’s Antique Mall. So many booths! Even if you are not an antique lover like I am, there are so many interesting moments in an antique mall. You might see something from your childhood(depending on your age:)). Or see an item that reminds you of your grandparent’s home or find an accessory for your new Modern Farmhouse. Or maybe just add a touch of whimsy to any interior design. But most important, relax and enjoy the collection in one place of so many memories!

There are many treasures along the road when traveling in Oklahoma. Take a little extra time to Discover the little secrets of Oklahoma!
