The Oklahoma Clothesline

My husband and I are very fortunate, in my opinion, to celebrate our anniversary in June. Summer has arrived and nature is alive. You see growth everywhere! The best time to be outdoors and enjoying the offerings of summer. And to ponder the perfect romantic anniversary getaway!

He knows I love Bed and Breakfast Inns. I so appreciate their attention to design and comfort. And I am happy to say, we have enjoyed many wonderful stays at some picturesque Inns throughout our marriage. Enter 2021 and the Shiloh Morning Inn. This newly discovered Bed and Breakfast Inn will be at the top of our “best stays” list! (I need to insert here that celebrating our anniversary in Ireland and Paris will probably stay at the very “Top”!) But so excited to say that the Shiloh Morning Inn, in our beautiful home state of Oklahoma, has taken its place as one of our very special memories! It was the perfect staycation! A great destination spot you will want to check out!

Discovering the surprise and delights of Oklahoma is one of my favorite pastimes. Until receiving a gift certificate from our Son and daughter-in-law at Christmas for a night’s stay at the Shiloh Morning Inn, we were not aware of its existence. It is located in Dickson, Oklahoma, just a hop, skip, and a jump from Ardmore Oklahoma. The Inn is sitting atop a hill in the midst of 70 acres of heavily wooded property. And from the second-story balcony of our room, the view was beautiful!

The owners, David and Jessica, have taken care to see every detail is in place that would inspire togetherness and create a lovely atmosphere. Start your day with a three-course breakfast. Prepared by Chef-owner David with the highest quality of taste and presentation in mind. They have their own hand-made mugs that are on a warming tray under a towel for your coffee, hot tea, or cocoa! You just want to hold the warm mug empty, it is so comforting:) (They are for sale!).

As you plan your day, you might sit at one of the tables in the front living area overlooking the property and work on one of the puzzles that are set out. Or sit in the comfortable seating area in front of the fireplace(if you are there in the Fall or Winter) sipping a cup of hot cocoa from their handmade warmed mugs! Perfect opportunity for a good conversation. And they have a vast library of movies to choose from. (Free popcorn in the goodies closet) Also a large selection of board games. Activities all around that speak to connection and being together. A surprise and delight with all the diversions of our busy lives!

It was so peaceful, sitting on our private balcony playing a board game, while it rained! Taking the time to enjoy pastimes that we rarely take time for in our daily lives. There are also some nice walking trails on which you will happen onto a nice hammock, or a bench overlooking a pond, or just keep on walking for some good activity. It was also really nice to share the Inn with couples of all ages celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary, 7th anniversary, 15th anniversary, and 46th anniversary!

We headed into Ardmore for some antique shopping(love my husband for meandering with me through the very large Antique Emporium) and dinner on both nights of our stay at delicious restaurants! The backward street in downtown Ardmore is funny. You have to park backward since they changed this street to one-way but did not change the parking lines. A small thing, but cute! Downtown Ardmore is enjoying an exciting resurgence to yesteryear’s bustling downtown activity!

You must check out the Cafe Alley restaurant (busy, busy!, don’t get in a hurry!, worth the wait!) and Caddo Street BBQ! At Cafe Alley, our entire meal was excellent, however, you must try the Carrot Cake! It arrived warmed just to the point that the cream cheese icing, drizzled with caramel sauce, was just beginning to ooze over the edge of the cake! Decadent! The whole experience was positive and very enjoyable!

Our waitress was so attentive and courteous. She told us even if we did not like Carrot Cake, we would after we ate this Carrot Cake! I feel sure you will too.

Caddo Street BBQ was also delicious! We were so fortunate – two restaurants across the street from each other that were Top-Notch! And these are only two of the many fine choices for dining in Ardmore.

Caddo Street BBQ was 30 minutes from closing and the employees were so accommodating. The service and bbq were some of the best we have experienced. The fresh-cut fries were yummy! It is definitely a “must return” destination!

After your day of walking, playing, eating or shopping, enjoy a wonderful evening back at the Inn. Enjoy your own personal hot tub, or jacuzzi tub, or maybe their library for a good book! The Inn also offers a wonderful dinner delivered to your room. (You need to order ahead.) And don’t be offended, but there are no kids or animals allowed. It is designed for a romantic getaway for couples only, and they succeeded! Call early, they book up quickly. We are headed back in the Fall!
